things i think about while powerwashing 124

Hi everyone!

As the days get longer and the temp starts to rise, I would like to share my personal favorite iced coffee recipe! It makes around 2-3 servings and I served to some friends recently who really enjoyed it!

If you’re planning on serving this for friends while they’re over you can also pre-make this and store it in either a carafe or mason jar for a few days before serving. I’ve personally made it and kept it for the next day but you can do whatever.

Some other iced coffee drinks you all, my beloved and esteemed subscribers, can enjoy this summer include my favorite espresso tonic (or fizz or any word to mean sparkling), maybe an iced espresso, or a good ol’ affogato (espresso sprinkled onto vanilla ice cream).

Go out there and drink coffee! Have a wonderful buzzy summer.

museum of the week

Moving to New York has been tough for me. Well, mostly very good and almost all very well. But the lack of nature and wildlife really does kill me to a certain extent.

What if. The wild was here. Inside all along. Stuffed, inside the concrete jungle of New York. Also stuffed inside? In all senses, stuffed inside New York are the animal exhibits of the American Museum of Natural History.

Joined by esteemed subscriber Winnie Li, I studied the unmoving feathery figure of the bald eagle as it soared through the painted sky. It was joined by many neighbors, including unmoving grouses, songbirds without melodies, and flightless flamingos.

But it was fun! I learned a lot about grouses and ptarmigans — which I had encountered in Iceland before but now can identify even better via the spotted pattern on its feathers.

The other exhibit I really enjoyed here was the rock exhibit which I do not have any pictures of. Thankfully, I do have some rock puns that I threw out while I was there:

  • this exhibit is the crown jewel/hidden gem
  • a rock solid exhibit
  • take these things for granite

Ok I forgot about the dinosaurs. I usually go and see it when I'm in town. It is a great exhibit. I got to see my hero the branchiosaurus, which is also featured in the entrance of the museum.

Go team!

I didn’t get a chance to go to some of the other exhibits but I know I will be back!

fb marketplace find of the week

Yo is this uh. Uh this. Is. Is this a good deal?

According to the image this is for 3 graduate credits at Hofstra, which seems to amount to $1,732 or $1,695, depending on the school. Description says valued at $5,085 so assuming the latter.

So ... this is a fuckin steal ...

animal of the week

Esteemed subscriber Eleanor Coffin brings us an animal of the flying nature as well with some great instructions on how to interact with them. I’ve personally always regarded them as an adversary to my well-being but ... go ahead and feed them I guess.

This is a Canada goose that has built a nest in the gravel median between my office's road and the adjacent parking lot. She always swivels her neck around to watch as you drive by.
This is also a friendly PSA that bread is bad for waterfowl. They like it, but it doesn't provide the nutrients they need, so a bread-heavy diet can cause growth deficiencies and deformities. A good alternative is corn or peas. :)

Send me your animal photos at ryan@torrtle.co!
