The feeling of fall, annoyingly, reached the inside of my mouth during my Saturday bike ride as an early-faller of a leaf charted its course toward the ground, where I intercepted it midway through its journey to sweet release beneath the earth.

I used to say summer was my favorite season since in California I didn't see much of fall, as there wasn't as brilliant of an effect during those months and leaves didnt really start dropping until winter.

But last year in New York and many years ago in Wisconsin, I got a glimpse of the brilliant red-orange flame marking the end of the habitable season. The lazy sunlight shining through sprout-green trees of the summer slowly withering until they complete their circle of life by releasing their nutrients back into the ground. I too come full circle - I acknowledge the pumpkin spice latte and its brilliance, after years of hating on it for no reasons.

In the grand scheme of nature and the cosmic movements of time, we should all just choose peace. Stop hating on the pumpkin spice latte. Embrace it. It's best with whipped cream.

Running! Long distances. The hallmarks of being in our late 20s I guess.

animal of the week

Another week, another large bird with a large beak. This time from Massachusetts, straight from esteemed subscriber Alex Weliever!

Peter and I spotted this heron (or questionably an egret) on our walk at Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary in Natick, MA this weekend. We often see turtles and chipmunks around the trails, but getting close to the bird was extra special. We also were convinced it was trying to swallow a fish at one point, because of the way its neck was flailing around, but I think it just does that
