Not to talk about work, but some exciting news! Effective today I am changing teams within my company - not really of my own volition, but it is memorable in that I have not changed teams within a company before!
For those who have known me for a while, coding and software engineering has definitely been more than just a job. I love coding after work on my small pet projects (one of which will be very relevant soon), run my own server, etc.
Admittedly, as time went by in previous jobs, I lost that spark of joy and adventure I found in coding. I know, being adventerous in front of my laptop does not sound very possible, but I had fun! It wasn't until I joined this last team that I started to rediscover that joy again. I could feel the energy and the willingness to just try. And that energy to just try and get things done, the little spark of hope, got me to start making things in my free time again.
I'm not really sure how this translates to other professions. I find myself in the unique position of having work as my hobby which makes it at times very hard and at others very easy to enjoy my role. Looking back, so many little things have led up to this moment that I can't believe that I'm in this position.
All I can really say is I'm excited to start the week, and I hope you all are too! Let's have a great week and see you guys next Monday!
museum of the week
My great apologies to esteemed subscriber Akshay Pawar: for maybe like 3-4 weeks I had promised him that we would go to a museum over the weekend, but for various reasons the plans had always fallen through. So one fateful weekday, we put our foot down and decided we would leave our wonderful borough of Queens and venture back into the urban jungle of Manhattan to see how it all began at the Musuem of the City of New York.

Located at a stretch of road bordering the northeastern corner of Central Park known as The Museum Mile, the MCNY (as henceforce abbreviated) seems somewhat unassuming at first glance. It's no Met, that's for sure, but the depth of information contained is worth anybody's time there.

Together with esteemed subscriber Matt Jewison we saw a whole exhibit on movies set in the city, then a whole other one detailing the history of dance and music in New York (including voguing, swing and jazz!). But my favorite was probably the halls that showed artifacts from various decades of NY's history in order, with the 1900 to Present section showing everything from the Great Depression to 9/11 to ... a Bloomberg system keyboard.
One of the other fun exhibits was learning about Asian activism in the early 1900s! It was suprising to see so many Taiwan/ROC flags in the newspapers and flyers but I think that would make sense given the history. Good to always be learning about my heritage!

Gonna start rating these museums now, and it's a 3.5/5. There's a lot of content to go through and I think it's worth your time if you're here for longer (aka living in NYC). I think I could recommend it to a tourist.
