This (Sunday) morning, I took one of my favorite breaths: the clear, crisp nose-clearing gulp of freezing dry air. If you ask me what my favorite weather is, I’ll say any time it is not 30-50 F. There is simply nothing that compares to a lungful of fresh cold air.

And so as the first snow of the season fell on LIC and of course the rest of New York, I took the chance to take a walk around and enjoy the powder before its inevitable decline into slush, then evaporated back into the sky. Like we all will, I assume!

There’s something I like about walking in the snow. There’s no one around, and the falling snow also adds a layer of anonymity and shield from the world around me. For once, I feel like I’m not being perceived. To be honest growing up I did not have much memories of snow actually falling — it wasn’t until October at Purdue did I see snowflakes fall from the sky and disappointingly fade away into ground. It’s not sticking, my Midwestern classmates would say. Oh, I see.

Today’s snow stuck, came and went. Some is still around in the form of ice, but the cheerful and light powder is as fleeting as happiness on a Sunday night before work. I can’t wait for the next one!
