HAPPY MARCH MY ESTEEMED SUBSCRIBERS!!!
Wait, you’re thinking, isn’t it already March? ITS NOT MARCH UNTIL AMERICA’S PREMIER SPORTING EVENT (in my opinion) MARCH MADNESS STARTS.
For the uninitiated, March Madness is basically the men’s college basketball national tournament in America. Every year, 64 (+2?) teams will square off in a single-elimination bracket to crown the champion. Elite teams are downed by underdogs, or maybe this year it will be underCATS.
Every year outside of California it seems, it’s pervasive. As I work out in the gym I can hear the distinctive murmur of the crowd drifting out of someone’s phone speaker, the chirps of rubber on lacquered hardwood, the shrill cry of the whistle.
This year I decided to take it a bit easier — in past years I’ve gone to the national championship game (with esteemed subscribers Caleb Balisacan and Aashir Aumir) and also watched in sports bars. This year’s watches have all been confined to living rooms, with chatter fluttering in and out of the key matter at hand. But the tension of the game keeps glued to the screen.
Anyway catch Purdue this Thursday facing my parent’s Alma mater in the Sweet Sixteen!!! No idea how UT Austin made it this far but honestly should have seen this coming because my family met fellow Texas alums at a buffet in Taiwan on the first day of the Lunar New Year. Boiler up!
