Happy Monday esteemed subscribers! I hope everyone who had the long weekend had a great Fourth of July weekend.
This weekend felt like an adventure. Since work has been kicking my ass I decided to take an extra day off to make it a four day weekend and sat on my ass the entire day to wait off the heat wave. And it only went up from there. Friday brought brunch and braving the insane heat wave (maybe rather foolishly) with esteemed subscribers Akshay Pawar and Stephen Davis to watch some old boats float down the East River.
The night ended with some mahjong. Which sadly did not end with any victories for me ... but I did get to meet the cat esteemed subscribers Stephen Davis and Magdalene Lam were cat-sitting!

The next day was full of chaos. I started the day lining up (lol) for my local bagel cart's Fourth of July special: the brisket egg and cheese. Rollin Bagels IS my top bagel choice in NYC, and every time the owner Quentin drops a collab or special edition he never disappoints!!!
quentin of rollin bagels workin hard in the heat!
I wolfed down the EXTREMELY patriotic bagel sandwich and then headed to the next item on the docket: esteemed subscriber Junghyun Choy had come in to visit so esteemed subscribers Emily Ding and Jennifer Wang went out to try some trendy bakeries in the area with her. From there Emily and Jennifer and I went out for an evening grill with esteemed subscribers Kaylie Chen, Carolyn Xu, Alisa Reynya and Seth McFarlane. I even got to hop in front of the grill to keep up my weekly grill streak!

Kaylie's backyard (which has been previously featured in this newsletter) continued to deliver: featuring her cat Mia in the early hours of the grill as well as both a propane AND charcoal grill as well as a yard so deep you might as well put up a hiking trail in there.
To end the night, Emily and Jennifer and I hit up some karaoke and exercised our Chinese brains trying to sing some Chinese songs. A certainly patriotic end to the night.
This was one of those weekends where the adventure definitely found me — walking through from event to event, just meandering through the day. Strolling through the streets of New York while the hot air of the heat wave blasted around us felt like a sort of dream — it reminded me of those sticky August summers at Purdue before classes really ramped up. Walking until the sun went down, soaking in the sun.
What a summer this has been in New York. I can't wait to see what the rest has to offer!
