march madness bracket update 3/27

Hello esteemed subscribers!

First off I want to thank everybody who has signed up for the powerwashing bracket! If you missed it the first time you have the chance to enter a second chance bracket until 7:09 PM EST!

Back to today — the tournament continues tonight and is going into the first half of the Sweet Sixteen! Purdue doesn’t play until tomorrow night but we will see some interesting movements in our pool today.

Congratulations to our current top five:

  1. Esteemed subscriber Tanner Hicks (520 pts)
  2. Guillermo Wenrich (not a subscriber, sadly) (-10 pts)
T3. Esteemed subscriber Stephen Davis (-40 pts)
T3. Esteemed subscriber Leo Liu (-40 pts)
T3. Esteemed subscriber Alex Weliever (-40 pts)
Name Place Points Notes
Esteemed subscriber Tanner Hicks 1 520 pts
Guillermo Wenrich 2 510 pts Not an esteemed subcriber, sadly
Esteemed subscriber Stephen Davis T3 480 pts
Esteemed subscriber Leo Liu T3 480 pts
Esteemed subscriber Alex Weliever T3 480 pts

A quick aside on how scoring works: each match is worth the following points:

Each round has matches equal to half of the teams left (sweet sixteen has 8 matches), so each Sweet Sixteen match will be equal to 40 points!

Now that we have this information, let’s see who each match may affect the rankings tonight.

BYU (6) vs Alabama (1) (7:09 PM EST)

We should all be praying for esteemed subscriber Tanner Hicks’ downfall. Esteemed subscribers Stephen Davis and Leo Liu have chances here to catch up to Tanner if Bama wins — sadly our remaining third place winner’s pick (WISC) is not in this match.

Wisconsin was the second-most picked in this match, despite them being a Big Ten team.

Florida (1) vs Maryland (4) (7:39 PM EST)

Maryland is in a bit of a pickle here — not only has nobody in our bracket chosen them to be the winner here, but their head coach is also reportedly jumping ship. He even missed team dinner last night!!

This match is mostly inconsequential on our bracket, only effect is esteemed subscriber Alex Weliever being dropped back due to them picking UConn (how could you).

Duke (1) vs Arizona (4) (9:39 PM EST)

I’m a big believer in the PAC-12 failing early. But since Arizona is no longer in the PAC-12, they have found themselves in the Sweet Sixteen.

This one also has mainly no bearing on the top five in our bracket — only my coworker picked Arizona but they are ranked 13th rn.

Texas Tech (3) vs Arkansas (10) (10:09 PM EST)

Every one and their mom should root for Arkansas. Texas Tech winning gives us Tanner a healthy lead and boosts esteemed subscriber Vic Dong to 500 points (new third place). Shouldn’t be a problem if Alabama cleans up ... but it’s March!

See you guys tomorrow morning! I'll be back with another writeup then 😎.
