Good morning my wonderful subscribers.

Sports are amazing.

I spent most of my Sunday hosting a Super Bowl party and besides the amazing wings that esteemed subscriber Stephen Davis and I put together, I had an absolute blast watching the Kansas City Chiefs get PUMMELED by AMERICA'S FOOTBALL TEAM, THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES.

Pray for Philly fellas, because no light poles are gonna be untouched.

Seeing the Philly defense smother the absolute shit out of Patrick Mahomes brought me life. Interceptions, pick sixes, a tush push or two. It's enough to make anyone go crazy. Despite some of our friends not knowing much about our country's blessed sport, they picked it up enough by the end to be screaming with the rest of us.

But even as I saw the most accursed team in this country buckle choke and flail to a 40-22 finish, that wasn't even the best part of my day. I was just happy to be among friends, watching the Super Bowl. The last time I watched the Super Bowl with friends was actually a very similar scenario (me and esteemed subscriber Nathan Cohen, Chiefs vs Eagles in 2021).

And last year ... it was just me and my computer watching the Niners absolutely choke in overtime.

The sensation of screaming at the TV, making terrible jokes, failing to identify almost every celebrity that graced our TV screen with friends is the one I definitely feel above all.

I can't wait to watch the Niners in the Super Bowl with these guys next year.

museum of the week

I awoke on Saturday morning a little restless.

Though I could see the air outside was cold, I still wanted to get out of the apartment and do a little bit of museum-ing. So I gave Google Maps a quick browse and soon found myself riding crosstown on a Citibike, then riding the West Side Greenway all the way down to the New York branch of the National Museum of the American Indian.

The building itself is quite interesting! It's labeled as the Alexander Hamilton United State Custom House, and honestly the interior was beautiful — as were all the Native American artifacts on display!

Looking through the vast array of artifacts I found myself more drawn to the vibrant colors and intense angles and carvings of the northerners. I think totem poles were more of a thing in the North (feel free to correct me the museum didn't cover this).

i think this one was from newfoundland?

Another thing that struck me as I looked through the artifacts was how fundamentally different their relationship with the Earth was. Since they were of lower numbers, over hunting was never an issue (I think)? They lived off the land, used almost every part of the animal they hunted, and respected the land for what it is, was and would be. If only we could do the same!

They also had a wonderful exhibit talking about how the Lenape tribe around Manhattan (also known as Manhatta, the place to gather wood for bows) first interacted with the Dutch that eventually settled the island. And I honestly really appreciated the more localized take since the museums I usually go to are much bigger in scale and don't really have the resources to focus on certain areas. I didn't know this but the Iroquois tribe (which I remember learning about in school!) are one of the most common in New York, with quite a few working in the trades — enough to form their own unions!

The exhibit also touched a bit on lacrosse and the more traditional leagues! Instead of the carbon fiber sticks that guys with mullets use, there still seem to be traditional players that use wood sticks and leather netting.

I'd recommend going here — especially with Donald Trump in charge. Because when I tried going to the National Archives they said they were closed "after certain events from the last four months." Trump also fired the director of the National Archives the same day. Rough.
