This week's newsletter is gonna be a little shorter since I am still kind of recovering from my 52-mile bike ride yesterday! It was to and from my uncle's house and my first foray into the suburban streets of non-NYC. To be honest, I have to give the East coast a little credit for being hilly. Some of those inclines were diabolical.

When I set out on the bike ride my initial intention was to have a nice relaxin and fun one. Fun, yes, relaxing, not so much. I tried to start slow but something about speeding through the trails and the streets really appeals to me a lot - the feel of the wind biting your cheek as some leaves fly around in your wake. The vibrations of the bike get faster and faster as you start to wind down the hill, the trees for a split-second melting into a green blur, the clicking of the pawl-and-ratchet hub filling your ears.

This very spectacular feeling is also accompanied by the sinking humiliating feeling of a hill. And, of course, none of these feelings are rivaled by the one of seeing your destination.

Along the way I felt like I needed to bring some fuel to keep me going so I made some "baguettes" using this no-knead recipe I found but also bought some of those fancy gels at the recommendation of a coworker. The bread is infinitely more appetizing than the aptly named "Gu" but I did have to carry it in my backpack instead of stuffing it in my bike bag.

Anyway! This ride marks the completion of one of my main biking goals: biking to my uncle's! At this point I think I'll be trying for a 100-mile ride before the end of the year. Don't think it is very viable but we will try! Boston is 247 miles away ... do I dare to dream?

Man ... the last time I was at a Brazilian steakhouse must have been like four years ago by now . How time flies. Just like the meat flying off the big pointy sticks they have into my plate. And the honey cheese. Damn this diet is hitting me.
