Happy Monday esteemed subscribers! I write to you from very sore legs to report that I participated in this year's 5 Boro Bike Tour!!! Where they close off 40 miles of streets and highways around the city so we can bike on it!

Thank you to all the esteemed subscribers who came and watched me bike, I didn't see some of you but I definitely saw esteemed subscribers Akshay Pawar, Matt Jewison and John Mema right before I got onto the Pulaski Bridge! Thanks for cheering me on then, I really needed the motivation boost.

This is not the first time I've done a ride where the streets are closed off — one of my favorite memories from last year was biking up and down the length of Manhattan with esteemed subscriber Seth McFarlane during Summer Streets! But this was pretty crazy because they even closed the highways for us to ride on! So there I was — cruising down FDR Drive on my BIKE with like a million other people!!! Crazy how every time I'm on that highway I run into traffic!!!!

Favorite part: all of it. I was pretty pleased to learn that I have biked through most of the areas the tour went through (Astoria, LIC, the water-facing portion of Brooklyn). But I got to go where no bike is generally allowed to go like the Verrazzano Bridge to Staten Island, the Queens-Brooklyn Expressway, and FDR Drive!!! It's just such a unique experience that I can't really imagine being offered anywhere else.

Downside? Definitely the traffic. There were so many times when I really wanted to blow past a biker but they were just positioned in a way where it just was not going to happen. Also … almost $200 entrance fee? Really? I guess??

So there was my 50 mile day (40 for the course, 10 to get to and from the starting line). If you're looking for something to do that is somewhat active and you're ok just chilling and riding I would HIGHLY recommend the 5 Boro Bike Tour.
