Hi all,
Haven’t been feeling well again this week! It’s just been way too hot over here and I think I overheated and am now suffering the dizzying and nauseating consequences.
To tide everyone over, my coworker messaged posted this song in Slack in the depths of Friday afternoon. A twangy country tune that really tugs at your heartstrings — and blood vessels. Really gets the heart beating. Insert pun about cholesterol.
With all the AI craze, there has been a few funny and cool AI websites to come out and SUNO.ai is one of them. They’re apparently musicians themselves and based in Boston! And they are hiring. So they are real people.
Going down this strange AI startup rabbit hole it seems they’ve battled their way into a Series B round of funding (for the uninitiated, startups go through various rounds of funding in Alphabetical order, usually going public around the letter G) and have gathered around $125M — definitely not a bad number but would be very curious about the burn rate (the rate at which money is spent in startups before they have to go out and get more money) since AI generation is typically not very cheap.
Regarding AI use in the arts — I’m still trying to see where it goes to have any real stance on it. Personally photographs are really about capturing the memories of the things you are photographing so AI image generation is really just used as a tool for something a little less personal. A funny sketch from a friend will always trump some AI-generated image that I made on a whim.
Ok now I’ve rambled on for too long let’s skip to the fun stuff.

animal of the week
Patrick went on vacation and brought back some pictures of Olympic marmots! Congrats on your nice vacation and thank you for the marmot pictures, and sadly they seem to be disappearing per a picture of a park sign that he also sent me. And yes, he did get that close “I was like 10 ft away,” he said. “They weren’t skittish.” Kind of reminds me of some of the birds in Iceland.
Send me your animals at ryan@torrtle.co!
