Hello readers! With this edition we have TWO major changes: the first is the change in publication date. We will start publishing on Mondays (pending any major complaints) since that is when most people check their emails and so people can be happy on the way to work (if taking subway, do not use phone and drive).
The second is — I am in New York!
Emergency third: this is labeled 94 because I accidentally labeled last week's as 25.
Simba and I took a plane over from California and are now pretty much fully moved in to this super-large apartment. I just love how everything is a short walk away — anything I could ever want is at most ten minutes away from the lobby of the apartment building.
I definitely have had my share of moments though — getting lightly roasted by the doorman for having packages deliver every day (sorry, I just got here!) was funny, but tripping in the middle of an intersection was pretty much downright embarrassing.
Even through all those, the sheer energy of being in a big city has made up for it. Esteemed subscriber Jennifer Wang and I went for a walk through Koreatown and happened upon some type of festival and mini-parade complete with a stage and somebody presumably getting ready to perform. And just a few blocks east we found a larger parade celebrating the Nigerian Independence Day — AND my friend told me that there was a Japanese festival downtown. There's almost TOO much to do here!
Anyway I shall keep you all updated. For now, here's the museum of the week.
museum of the week: the met
Going to try this out! I went to The Met this week and had this idea when I found a book in the museum store with 111 NYC museums that people should see. Thus, I figured I should try going to one museum a week! Just for the hell of it!
I think most people know about The Met — one of the best art museums in the world. It's also insanely big — so this time I focused on the 19th and Early 20th Century wing.
Having walked into The Met before (during the day), I was expecting a nice quiet time. Clearly, the museum had other plans. As soon as I stepped in I heard what I thought was orchestral music playing through speakers, echoing off the arched roof of the museum and up the grand staircase. Then I looked at the info desk and saw that there were a shit ton of activities! The only activity I was looking forward to was staring at old paintings though.
I have to say — I'm not too big of a fan of art with low contrast, but there were a few impressionist pieces that caught my eye! (I know realize that I didn't take enough photos with my phone so I'm sorry but imagine low contrast paintings).
My favorite ones were the big contrast ones (big surprise here) and the moody ones. One of my favorite Romantic era paintings is the one where the guy is standing next to the crashing waves on the rocks (Wanderer above the Sea of Fog by Caspar David Friedrich). So this one resonated especially well with me.
These two I enjoyed particularly for the large contrast in lighting — especially the latter which actually made me double take for a bit. It's so CRISPY.
I will make sure to take more pictures and remember a little more next time!
anonymous subscriber news
Not to insert myself in the conversation but I tried watching The Newsroom before and I think I just had too many good memories of The Exponent that I preferred playing those back

To other sub, I haven't watched The West Wing, but I know that's the formula for dialogue from Sorkin, but from what I've heard from others, that's how people in Washington "talked" while it doesn't work in a news setting imo

animal of the week
I guess I've never gotten Simba an actual bed before (he's always found bed-like things to sleep in/on) but since my new apartment was kind of bare and cold I decided to get him this fluffy donut bed that he has straight up fallen in love with. I wish somebody would treat me the way Simba treats and loves this bed. Haha! Ha.
Send me your animals at ryan@torrtle.co!
